Hello musical peoples!
My good friends from Melbourne are coming to Europe to tour in summer from Russia to Spain and everywhere in between.
The band is called Baseball and you can check them out on their myspace here: _www.myspace_com/baseballtheband
They are truly amazing to see live - energetic punk with violin and eastern rhythms - don't miss 'em if they're coming to your town!
I'll be joining them on the leg of the tour from Berlin to Spain from late June to mid-July and have taken on the task of finding the transport for this leg...a tough job! We've discovered that it's sooo expensive to rent or buy a car in Europe, especially if you're not European, so we're looking for someone who may be able to help us out with the use of a van or wagon.
What we need is a vehicle big enough for five people and some gear from 21 June to mid-July to get from Berlin to Spain and back again. We would of course pay for the use of the car and have international licenses and travel insurance etc and are very responsible folk.
If anyone can help out or has any advice on an inexpensive way for a band to tour across Europe please drop me a line. And if Baseball are coming to your town please come along and say hi!
In advance, thanks for any advice.
Cheers,
Rina

Hi Rina.

I can't help you with the wheels, but if your friends would like to play in Brussels I would recommend they contact this venue: _www.vaartkapoen.be/

It's in Dutch but they speak English for sure, the email is: vkconcerts@skynet.be

They often have punk nights and favour small bands from different countries.

Unfortunately it's not my cup of tea, otherwise I would go to seem them :)

Hey Rina,
only familiar with the ninety nine stuff but baseball have played with the sonic manipulator - so they must be alright! Oh yeah, you're gonna need a big van - I did a similar thing with 5 people through europe last year but we hired our stuff...we used a guy who specialised in touring vans/gear (drums, amps etc) - so his prices were a bit better than your typical commercial hire place - he was based in Holland so not too far if you start in Berlin. One thing to think about, depending on how tight your dates are (I'm guessing - tight!) having no support/backup van can really mess with your schedule, especially if your moving in the one direction. He delivered a backup vehicle to France when our first one broke down - a big help/relief. On the other extreme I had friends tour japan/korea using trains and hated it...maybe get onto The Drones, who were based in Berlin for a while and toured around - they might have some ideas/leads for ya (maybe even get onto their spanish label), Digger and the Pussycats/Kamakazie Trio have also done the euro thing a few times, but they are only 2/3 members with minimal gear but are pros with that kinda stuff. Do you have accom booked/organised - if you're lucky alot of regional venues have accom for you, otherwise some bands get a camper and do it that way - no driving around at 4 in the morning looking for a hotel...Have you tried myspace for band hookups?
We had major hassles on the german/french border, so try and have a clean van :) Good luck!
Cam.

Hey Campbell - thank you thank you for the hot tips! I'd definitely be keen to look up your contact in Holland, not too far to travel for a bargain ;) The dates are really tight, like a different country every night, so reliability is key! Ben B-ball spoke to D + the P-cats, they had one good contact which would be fine for a shortish tour but being on the road for as long as Baseball are the costs start to add up...I'll get Ben/Cam to rouse their several thousand myspace connections to the cause...
Thanks again!
Rina

PS - Sonic Manipulator - is he the guy who busks on Swanston Street with a silver space suit and theramin? He rooooocks!!
