Hello PurpleScent,

I don't know what type of music you enjoy, but in soul music I know a band called Les Nubbians (female singers), which are very good! Then you have Hip Hop Saian Supa Crew, Raggasonic (very good Hip Hop, not comercial one - you have a lot more of french Hip Hop, however these are two of the best ones); Reggae you have Kana, Dub Incorporation (and a lot more...).

Hope you'll enjoy it,

Kisses

Hey,

Try out:

Alexis HK
Carla Bruni
Yann Tiersen

That are my favourite French groups. It's some kind of quiet music.

Maybe you should tell us what type of music you enjoy (like Rui said in the posting before).

Greetings
Robert

I would have three very classical suggestions from France for you and three from Quebec as well (if you wanted songs in french the language and not French as a nationalty)

From France: Georges Brassens, Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel

From Quebec: Paul Pich?©, Robert Ferland and Les Cowboys Fringants (which is a new band still active, but will become a classic according to me and many other people)

Further than a question of taste, these suggestions are classics. No matter if you like it or not, it will enlarge your musical culture.

Enjoy!

Mathieu

I've heard the new album of Vanessa Paradis which seems to be very good
For french singers or groups, there are the famous one as Jacques Brel and Serge Gainsbourg.
Otherwise , there are also CALOGERO, RAPHAEL, NOIR DESIR , MANO SOLO, YANNICK NOAH, DA SILVA..

Juliette is also good. Very funny songs about women. For the new crooner type, try Raphael, very popular. Manu Chao if you wish some songs with meaning (that is against the main stream). Noir D?©sir was pretty good too (mind you the main singer killed his girl-friend a few years ago. She was a well-know French actress: Trintignant, too much love ? they say). I'm sure there are loads of them for you to discover. Hope the younger csers will come up with other tips to you.

I'd recommend:

Manu Chao - Clandestino

Axelle Red - Toujour moi
(this album was very popular when I lived in France in 1999)

M - Je dis Aime
(also very popular in 1999 and one of my all time favourites - LOVE this)

Air - 10.000 Hz Legend

Daft Punk - Discovery

And like some of the others have mentioned: Yann Tiersen, Edith Piaf and Nouvelle Vague.
