I have heard some very good dance music at the Indian and Middle Eastern restaurants in SF. They never have info, as they are like mixed tapes, but if anyone knows where to start listening to some of that stuff, that'd be great.

I'm not sure whether or not it's traditional music remixed in the west or not. the people at the restaurant don't seem to know either.

thanks for any leads or info,
enzo

Hi Enzo,

Nitin Sawhney could be what you are looking for.
He made some masterwork cd's: Beyond Skin, Prophecy, Philtre..

Cheers,

Eric

Couldn't find Muslim Gauze on iTunes, which can be crap in USA. I'll see if I can hear samples online.

thanks

Sahwney is very beautiful, but it sounds more soulful and pensive - like electronica. This was full-on techno dance music. I'm doing a themed party and i thought this kind of music would be great.

thanks

Forbidden??? Could you please be so kind and explain why? I was planning to go to USA soon, thanks for warning though, i should remember to check my sets before i put them in my bag. I dont really want to be spending my vacation in a guantanamo like prison.. or whatever it is.

Hey sorry i missed suggesting music for your party....

there's plenty of amazing and fantastic asian trance grooves out there... some of them are well known, some not, some of the musical artists do only asian trance (see Makyo) others do a mixture of styles but many of their tunes are definitely asian (thievery corporation)

ltos is just ... inspired... bonobo...banco de gaia

check a cool stream a friend of a friend set up - i prefer the chill, you may like the harder rhythms, both at
schizoid.in

yummylicious!
