Can anyone recommend any music groups from Iceland other than the already popular Sigur Ros and Bjork?

I actually wrote a column about Iceland's music scene. Copy and paste this link into your browser to access it:

Sugarcubes (of course)

Storsveit Nix Noltes

Valegeir Sigurdsson

Mugison

Leaves

Ghostigital

Mum

Johann Johannsson

Gus Gus

Daniel Agust

Apparat Organ Quartet

The soundtrack to Screaming Masterpiece

Nico Muhly and Album Leaf both record in and collaborate with Icelandic musicians.

Of these, I think Mugison's Mugimama, Is This Monkey Music? might be one of the best. That album is so freaking good! Mum's older stuff, of course, too. And some of Gus Gus' stuff from the 90's is awesome.

Probably all of those have myspace or will turn up something good if you google them. Enjoy or ask more! Icelandic music is hella good. It only starts with Bjork and Sigur Ros. I have tons.

If I might extend this list to other nordic countries, I'd recommend:

Efterklang (DENmark)

Under Byen (DEN)

Anja Garbarek (NORway) - specially "Smiling & Waving"

Hanne Hukkelberg (NOR)

Jose Gonzalez (SWEden)
