There used to be a LiveJournal group called mixswap. It died when the host got tired of receiving and mailing out packages of CDs to everyone. But I got to thinking: what if we CSers did a digital mixswap on a filesharing site?

I would be willing to set up and pay for a filesharing account that we can all use if enough people are interested and willing to participate...

Box_net gives you enough space for 10 or 15 mp3...

count me in, too :)

so will everybody have individual accounts, or a shared account to put all albums ?
Evryone can prepare a mixed 12 song and zip it in a file like old time albums :P

i use divshare_com for my shares, but if anyone recommends other service, we can use it, too ...

Quite confused :
What is the concept exactly ? To share mixes of songs like when we gave friends tapes with favorite songs ?

Sorry for the delayed responses, everyone. I don't often have a lot of internet time.

Anyway, the concept is simple: compile a group of songs that fit a theme or are just a collection of your favorites and share them with your friends. People started doing this on cassette tapes, then moved to CDs, and now it's easiest to just send a collection of mp3s as a .zip or .rar file.

I'm trying to decide the best way to go about this. Each site has benefits and drawbacks, but ultimately I'd like to find a place where any of us can access the account from a single password (without having access to my financial information *wink*) and can post up our mix for others to download and where it will stay up indefinitely. Most of these sites either have a time limit as to how long a file will be accessible OR they have a very small bandwidth so that only a few of us could post mixes at a time OR the files can only be accessed a finite number of times. I'm thinking that just a regular website that is password protected might be the way to go. The other way to go about it would be to create like a Yahoo group and just post the mixes in the files section of the group. Although this kind of filesharing may be against Yahoo's TOU. I'd love to hear people's ideas, and in the meantime will keep researching this.

Hey maybe multiply_com will do it for you. You can upload entire playlists, no limit, and people can listen to them streaming, and if they like it they can download it.

Here's one of my playlists as an example

I'm definitely interested, never used any file sharing sites though so wouldn't know where to start. I'm a quick learner though...
